About CMZC

Crestone Mountain Zen Center is a Zen Buddhist monastery and retreat center located in the mountains of southwest Colorado.

Serving as the monastic practice center of Dharma Sangha, CMZC has affiliate centers in Boulder, Colorado and several countries in Europe.

CMZC was founded in 1988 by Zentatsu Baker-roshi, Dharma Heir of Shunryu Suzuki-roshi and Head Teacher of Dharma Sangha.  The Center’s land and several of its buildings, including the architecturally renowned Lindisfarne Chapel Dome, were donated by the Lindisfarne Association.

CMZC offers a year-round schedule of daily meditation, work practice and Zen retreats, and is open to individual guests, students and retreatants from May to December.  In addition, the Zen Center runs a summer Guest Season from June through September, in which we host a variety of retreats, workshops and conferences.
