Practice Period

At Crestone Mountain Zen Center we continue the monastic tradition of the Three-Month Practice Period. Each year from January 10 through April 16, the Center is closed to the public. During the Practice Period residents and students are engaged in a rigorous schedule of Zazen, oryoki meals, lectures, study, and ceremony. All Practice Period practitioners live together for three months without leaving the premises of the monastery.

Registration
Please use our registration form. Due to the intensive nature of the Practice Period, applicants must have an ongoing meditation practice. If you don’t have an established relationship with Abbot Zentatsu Baker-roshi or the Dharma Sangha, we will contact you to arrange an interview and to clarify futher details of your application.

Practice Period Information
All meals during Practice Period will be eaten oryoki style. We ask that practitioners bring their own oryoki set. (Oryoki sets can be purchased at CMZC.)

Practice Period Fee
$4800 for room and board. It is customary to make an additional teaching donation of at least $500.
