Event Details

Sesshin means to gather the mind. Sesshin is a traditional seven-day meditation intensive. It includes sitting and walking meditation, oryoki meals, daily Dharma talks, and private interviews with the teacher.

Each year we hold two traditional seven-day Sesshins at Crestone Mountain Zen Center:

  • Sesshin during Practice Period: March 31 – April 8
This Sesshin ends on Buddha’s birthday and occurs just before the closing ceremonies of the annual 90-day winter Practice Period. It is open to all approved Sesshin students.
  • Rohatsu Sesshin: November 30 – December 8
The Rohatsu Sesshin commemorates Buddha’s enlightenment. It is practiced throughout the Zen world.

Sesshin Information
Generally speaking, Sesshins are for practitioners who have already established an ongoing practice relationship with the Dharma Sangha. If you are new to Sesshin practice, please use our registration form and we will contact you to arrange an interview.

All meals during Sesshin will be eaten oryoki style. We ask that returning practitioners bring their own oryoki set. (Oryoki sets can be purchased at CMZC.)
