Community Luncheon: An Annual Event for Local Friends

Every year we invite the Crestone Community to lunch with us at the Center. This Community Luncheon has become a popular event. It would be great to invite the whole town, but each year we can only fit in the 86 persons with whom we’ve had the most contact each year. That’s the maximum capacity of the Kannon-do Dining Hall.

This year’s menu put together by our Tenzo (Head of Kitchen), Shuseki Deborah Detchon, and our great Sangha friend, Jo Stucko:

Sourdough Bread with Cultured Butter, Grated Radishes, Sea Salt
     Carrot Soup
     Quinoa Cakes with Romesco Sauce
Asparagus Spears with Crispy Shallots on Lemony Ricotta
Salad of Butter Lettuce, Arugula, and Spinach
     Strawberry Rhubarb Fool

One community member wrote us a thank you note saying, “The food, well… who woulda thunk that staring at a blank wall for most of the day would inspire such delectables? PRASAD! Thanks for carrying on the culinary lineage of Green Gulch and Tassajara.”

We appreciate the compliments, and we don’t quite know either how the magic happens.
